DAY 13: Mayasa
Our last cultural exchange was with the Monimbo indigenous people in the community of Masay, north of Managua. The event began with our hosts making some welcoming speeches, followed by some music, and dances by their young children.Elena and Alannah did the speaking for the group, with Carmen helping out as our translator.We then performed a range of songs, dances and throat singing.The Monimbo children performed more songs and dances for us.Then Alannah took to the dance floor with one of the Elders.At the end, Clara presented the Mayor with a gift bag of information about Nunavut.She then demonstrated how Inuit women carry their babies.We ended the afternoon back at the ice cream restaurant, where Charmaine checked out their "Speciale Eskimo."
